Binet invented the first IQ test – around 1904. Whether you agree with Binet’s definition of intelligence or not, one thing is certain – in order to compete these days, all types of organizations must have smart team members. In our view, it is the first thing you need to be looking for in all of your interviews. While getting folks to agree on the definition of intelligence can be challenging, for another slant on intelligence, R. Sternberg, a somewhat controversial psychologist at Cornell University, references three types of intelligence: analytical, creative and practical. Clearly, many have attempted to define intelligence. And elusive or not, the bottom line is this. We might not be able to put “intelligence” into words. But we all know it when see it!
