TAIS Performance Systems Inc. (TPSI) came into existence in March 2015 following the purchase of the Intellectual Property and other assets of Enhanced Performance Systems (EPS) of San Diego, California. The primary asset of EPS at the time was The Attentional and Interpersonal Style inventory (TAIS), a world-class psychometric assessment designed to evaluate performance capabilities of both individuals and groups across business, sports, military and other settings.

TAIS is centrally focused on concentration skills and the ability to shift both the width and direction (internal vs. external) in order to function effectively. It is these concentration and focus skills that are critical determinants of success or failure in virtually any performance situation. You cannot cross the street safely without paying attention to performance-relevant cues. You cannot communicate with another individual effectively without paying attention to the right cues. You cannot problem solve without shifting attention and focusing on task-relevant cues. You cannot get out of the starting blocks in the Olympics, in time to win the race, without paying attention to the right cues. TAIS, amongst other things, measures concentration skills and one’s ability to focus on the right thing at the right time. It rigorously evaluates one’s capabilities to respond to and initiate actions and thoughts in a task-relevant manner. And it is that understanding and capability that gives the TAIS a superior ability to predict performance.

As it stands, TAIS has a track record and level of utility that is second to none. The instrument is used world-wide by industrial, corporate and sports psychologists, trainers, coaches, management consultants, a vast array of corporations, elite military groups and professional and Olympic level sports teams - to both evaluate virtually every type of performance capability imaginable – from “junior” situations all the way to elite-level environments where high performance is literally a matter of life and death. The tool is also extensively used to design performance improvement programs to maximize individual and group functioning and execution results. Since its original development by Robert M. Nideffer, Ph.D., 40 years ago, TAIS has undergone several up-grades and iterations. TAIS Performance Systems Inc. (TPSI) is now continuing the work that Dr. Nideffer started four decades ago with on-going investigations and research into performance psychology.

The instrument has been translated into and is available in several languages, including French, Spanish, German, English and Italian.
